Character Creation: rules

  • Characters must be over the age of 18. Whilst children live in Salus, you cannot make a character that is a child. This does not include NPCs with relation to your character.

  • Characters must be human or android.

  • You can create two characters. In deciding accepted applicants, there is the possibility of one or both of your characters being accepted, so while it is allowed, be cautious when writing characters whose stories heavily depend on each other.

  • Your character must have either a base skillset or be specialised in one area, the members of Salus depend on each other to survive, therefore everyone must have something to bring to the table.

  • You must only have six traits. See Traits&Buffs Page.

  • Character may have up to two jobs, a Primary and Secondary.  See Classes Page

  • If you would like your character to have a pet etc, contact a mod to discuss first.

  • Consider how your character got to Salus- they can be a pre-existing member of Salus, an ex-member of the recently destroyed Vulcan, a stranded traveller, or something else entirely.

  • If you choose to depict a mental illness, disability, condition, disorder or anything of the sort through your character you must do research to ensure the character is not a stereotype or caricature of a group. Ableism will not be welcome.

  • The above extends to depicting race, culture, and gender identities.

Written app Template
Art Application

Alongside a written application, applicants must submit an art application using the template provided (TBA).

Art Applications should:

  • Include at least a ¾ drawing of your character.

  • Have all sections completed

  • Be drawn by you, or otherwise credited correctly to the artist that draws them for you. Do not use picrews or similar on your drawn app.

Customisation/personalisation is welcome for both the art app and written app so long as necessary information is present, however it is not necessary to join the group.

Art Application - Design  guidance

  • The rp genre is sci-fi dystopian - designs should reflect this. There are no restrictions on oc clothing, however typical colours lean towards earth tones.

  • Clothing should have versatility and be designed to be functional with the high activity demand needed from those living in Salus.

  • OC clothing does not need to reflect the job your character has, however this is worth considering when creating a character that feels convincing.

  • Characters may have prosthetics or mechanical enhancements, HOWEVER be mindful that these would have been crafted from materials available, so would not necessarily be state of the art.

  • If you would like your character to have a pet etc, contact a mod to discuss first.

aPPLICATION GUIDANCE: aNDROIDS

Androids are a subsection of humanoid robots that exist both on Mars and Earth, often carrying out many different functions throughout both plants. Androids are more often than not, built with human nature and appearance in mind; depending on their purpose and date of creation - these appearances and personalities can vary greatly.

Earth androids are either older and left behind, or they are of lower tech than martian androids. Martian androids are up to date, high tech, and have capabilities that older models from earth don’t. These capabilities depend on the android, and overall can be discussed with the mod team as necessary. Earth and Martian androids differ both in aesthetics and function, often created for different purposes. Android purposes range from biome employees, to security, to even serving as vessels for downloaded human consciousnesses, however the latter is a rare occasion and often only available to the wealthy Martians.

The mechanics of androids depend heavily on their time and place of creation as well as the reason they were created. It is strongly advised you keep in mind their initial purpose when creating an android character since their technology and features will often cater to such things. Overall, Androids are an accepted member of society, though this is heavily based upon the temperament and social atmosphere of the communities they are a part of as well as individuals involved. Some welcome them with open arms, some are quite distant and hostile towards them.

ABBREVIATED TIMELINE

  • 600 YRS: Development and First prototypes of Adaptive AI and Humanoid Android Forms

  • 570 YRS: Technological Boom and Advancement furthers Android development, creating more humanistic forms with self sufficiency. Many successful models would hit the workforce and replace or aid humans in certain jobs as Earth’s Climate becomes more hostile.

  • 550 YRS: Androids become more individualistic as AI and Programming makes leaps and bounds - becoming more human. Dissatisfaction and Tension arises between the two groups and a short revolt begins.

  • 545 YRS: The revolt is cut short by successful Negotiation. Progress continues again and development of transferring consciousness begins.

  • 500 YRS OR SO: Earth degrades and a section of the human population is sent to Mars, as well as several androids and all the necessary technology and blueprints to continue onwards. Many Androids are left behind on Earth.
